The Sussex and Kent Weald Stationery Engine group are delighted to welcome a variety of exhibits to our vintage section at the Sussex Country Fair. Alan and Lynn Cullen have been organising the vintage section at Countryman Fairs events for many years, and have built up an impressive showcase of vehicles and machinery from a bygone era.

An important part of Countryman Fairs ethos is the celebration of our rural heritage. The Sussex Country Fair provides a comprehensive display for those with an interest in how technology has advanced throughout history, and how it has changed our countryside.

There was a time when we would have only seen the occasional motorcar, and heard the roar of a good British-built motorcycle.  Back then of course, the modern petrol-powered lorry was largely replacing the steam vehicle. However, down on the farm, you could always see machinery working.  Stationary engines powered the milking machines and generated electricity to brighten cold winter nights. Multipurpose estate engines would toil in the fields, and then power the threshing machines in the barn to process the grain, as it was at Parham on the very ground on which the country fair now sits.

The woodcutters would often be required to harvest our forests and manage our woodlands. These impressive steam driven machines would strip and cut the timber right there on site.  We are very proud of the steam engine display at the Sussex Country Fair, which is amongst the finest collections in the UK.

All of these activities can be found amongst the vintage section at the Sussex Country Fair, and all our exhibitors will help to recreate a little piece of history for your enjoyment.
