Sussex Country Fair

Fishing

All of Countryman Fairs events allow visitors to learn more about fishing and purchase all the essential equipment needed for a day by the water. Sussex Country Fair is no exception, with the Salmon and Trout Association and Game Angling Instructor Association (GAIA) attending to provide information for all those interested in angling.

Even though Sussex Country Fair does not have its own lake, the team at Countryman Fairs build a custom made casting pool, allowing GAIA to supply top quality tuition opportunities for those who wish to learn more about game fishing.

Throughout the weekend those who wish to try their hand at casting at a competition level can enter the Carrilon UK Casting Championship.

Each competitor uses a 9’ - #6 weight Fly Rod with a #6 WF Floating line, to which is attached an 8’ leader with a piece of wool attached as the “fly” (hooks are not used). The course will be set up on grass or water, depending on the venue, and consists of 6 different obstacles.

Once the course has been completed, competitors start again from the beginning. Entrants will score 1 point for each target, and must complete as many targets as possible in a 2-minute time limit. The winner is the competitor who scores the most points within the time limit.

Prize Package (each day):
1st Fly Rod, Reel & Line outfit
2nd Reel & Line
3rd Fly Line

The Grand Final will be held at the Midland Game Fair, Weston Park on Sunday 21st September 2008. The champion will take away a Hardy Rod, Reel and Line outfit, and hold the Salmon & Trout Association Trophy for one year.

The UK Casting Championships 2008 is supported by Countryman Fairs, Carrilon UK, Hardy/Greys, Lureflash International and Guide Fly-fishing.
